Simparica Trio is the brand name of a veterinary medicine used for treating dogs with fleas, five species of ticks, and two types of parasites in the gut. Simparica Trio is also effective in preventing heartwormelungworm disease. It contains three active constituents: sarolaner, moxidectin, and pyrantel.
The medicine is not an over-the-counter medicine and can only be obtained with a prescription from the veterinarian.
The ingredient, sarolaner, is an insecticide(which kills fleas) and an acaricide(which kills ticks and mites). Its mechanism of action involves creating uncontrolled neuromuscular activity leading to the death of ticks and fleas. Some of the ticks it attacks are the gulf coast tick, brown dog tick, deer tick/black-legged tick, American dog tick, and Lone Star tick.
Moxidectin is a parasiticide that kills the larvae of heartworms, while pyrantel is a nematocide that kills worms like hookworms and roundworms.
